Tuesday, September 21

Today we had our first student-run morning meeting led by Strawberry Creek fifth grader, Lily Gee.  Lily created a handshake, greeting, read a story and taught us a fun, energizing acting game.  As the year goes on, there are lots of these types of leadership opportunities.  Here's a picture of Lily reading Dr. Suess's The Sneetches to the class.

We read quite an engaging memoir by Roald Dahl today titled "The Great Mouse Plot".  As we read the story, we used post-it notes to "interact with the text".  Below are some textual connections that were made:

During science we calculated and graphed our resting pulse and compared it to our pulse while running, jumping and walking.  We also calculated our stroke volume which is the amount of blood that's pumped through the heart each beat.

Did you know that the average 4th and 5th grader pumps 5 liters of blood through their body per minute!

Have a great night!
