I have been really impressed with the connections the students have made to their Just Right Reading books. Due to practice and sharing, students are explaining their connections more completely. This morning we discussed a student's ‘text to text’ connection comparing
A Stone Cutter’s Wishes to a quote from our read aloud
Walk Two Moons. “We don’t know the worth of water until the well runs dry” connects to how the Stone Cutter lived fantastical lives until he realized how nice it was to be just a stone cutter. This type of textual connection really demonstrates deep thinking, and as a class we discussed how to develop this student's written connection more completely. Expanding ideas is an ongoing focus.
Homework for Thursday, 9/30/10:
1. Read for thirty minutes and complete reading log.
2. Study for spelling test
